Queen's Diary: Feast of the Hare
Dear Diary,
Today was Feast of the Hare, held in the Barony of Skraeling Althing. We always have a great time at this event and because of that, it is one We always make a point to include in Our travels. I so enjoyed the way the thrones were set up. It enabled Us to watch all the activity on the list field unhampered (and in some comfort, I must add) I do love that part of being Queen – you get the good seats. This was the first time We have been able to watch a significant amount of fencing and I, for one, learned a lot this day. I knew the basic mechanics and a bit about the folks who participated but at Hare, We got first hand lessons and quite the show to watch. It made me smile, and laugh out loud at times, to watch the fencers go through the same shenanigans that the heavy fighters do but also take it seriously when appropriate. I guess it goes to show that no matter what you do, if you love it, you can do it well but also have fun with it.
Court was fun, with a lot of laughs there too. It seems that We spent a lot of the day laughing. There just seemed to be a pervasive feeling of good will throughout the hall all day and that carried on through Court and into feast. The little one who insisted on hugging everyone on the dais after he got his award was so cute and so funny, it makes me smile still. I did like how We were on the same level as the populace during Court; for Me, it makes Me feel closer to everyone and that much more a part of everything. I couldn’t imagine being Queen and not being close to the people of the Kingdom.
Feast was just wonderful. The food and the company and the mood of the hall was festive and joyous. The Baron and Baroness called for a ‘bardic feast’ and that was just what the populace delivered. It adds to the whole experience to hear the voices lifted in song; it ‘touches the soul and lightens the heart, a way to celebrate life, family and friends, anything and everything.
So, on that note, I celebrate the family and friends I have, the Kingdom I am a part of, the wonderful day spent and the husband I love so much.
Till Kingdom A&S...
