Queen's Diary

Coronation Entry

Dear Diary,

Our Coronation was yesterday and my head is still spinning! The day always reminds me of my wedding day, where everything is a blur but a happy one. Both Etain and I were so tired going into it from the hectic schedule and series of house guests we had leading up to the big day, plus the travel I have with my work during the week, that I was amazed that we were standing upright!

We first had to come in to speak for Baldric, during his elevation ceremony and I was so taken aback when the populace stood as we entered the room. I love Ealdormere, I really do. I didn’t know what to say, I was so touched by the display of respect for the both of us. Etain spoke as he always does, loud and proud, making me smile and love him just a little bit more. I was very honored to speak for Baldric who is a very good friend and deserved every minute of what was given to him that day.

While we waited for our cue to come up and begin the ceremony, we had a few laughs with some of our household and friends, who I’m sure came over for stress relief. I won’t repeat what we talked about J I was so nervous and couldn’t really say why. This is our second time, it should be easier right? But I wanted to do a good job and make Ealdormere happy that I was their Queen. It means a lot to me to carry this role well. The first time I had this privilege, I was so busy learning what it meant to be Queen and what my responsibilities were, having fun with it took a back seat. But because this is my second time being Queen, I know more what I need to do but what I don’t want to have happen is to take it any less seriously. If anything, because the learning curve is smaller, I want to do what I can to make it better and more fun, more meaningful for everyone who comes out.

I think our ceremony and courts went well. Like I said, my head was spinning and my brain wasn’t functioning quite like it usually does. I think we stumped Nicolaa when we told her, after her third oath of fealty, that we would reward oath-breaking with the silent wrath of a 1000 angels. You have to do something to make sure everyone is paying attention! That was fun. I couldn’t believe it when the winners of the tournaments turned out to be our man at arms, Faelen, our squire Quill and my champion Aaron! I nearly died! The gifts were supposed to be for other folks than family and close relations! I guess it was just another thing in a very crazy day! Next time, I will find out the winners ahead of time! Hamish was hilarious with his “horn blowing” causing laughter in the court. I think that was just what we all needed. It was a very special moment for Etain and I to be able to give Quill and Dagmar their Counties, as they are not only close friends but family as well.

The day was topped off by a magnificent feast that had my seams bursting. I know it’s probably not the most period dish but I do love fettuccini Alfredo! I feel so spoiled having it served specially for me. Nigel and Adrielle, and their helpers, did such a fantastic job with the event that I sometimes feel that there are not enough words or gifts to repay everyone who had a hand in making the day what it was. The gifts we were given to hand out as largess, the service that we received, everyone I was able to speak to, everything was just wonderful and I appreciate every bit of it.

I look forward to the next event, which is Crown, and seeing everyone again.
